Fairy Loot Unboxing: December 2018 Dragons!

I have been waiting to write this post since November and now it’s finally here! Over the next few days on Instagram I’ll be participating in the photo box challenge and today’s challenge is the unboxing. I am so thrilled to show you all of the goodies I got!

Let’s back up a bit. I’ve been interested in subscription boxes for years. I even signed up for two months of an artistic box but was just not impressed with the items I received. I figured I was better off spending that same money on specific items I wanted and have maintained that mentality since. When it comes to book subscription boxes I always held back because I didn’t know what the books would be and always feared that I would hate the books and it’d be a waste of money. All of that being said doesn’t mean that I didn’t love to look at all of the pictures on Instagram.

Then one day in November Fairy Loot announced their December box, and it would be Dragon themed. I mean come on, I am the Viking’s Wife, if I’m not into dragons then what the hell I am doing with that name on my blog? I also knew if there was any chance to try out a book box this was it. I then dumbed around until they announced they only had 50 boxes left. I then panicked and ran around like a mad woman because I’d misplaced my purse. But an hour later I had snagged a box and felt like an idiot because I’d overlooked my purse three times. But finally, my box arrived and I was beyond elated. I was very surprised because it only took three days for it to arrive after I received the tracking number which is amazing considering it came from London.

The day my box arrived I received some sad news. One of the items didn’t make it into my box and would be shipped after the holidays. I talked to Customer Service (which is fast to respond and very friendly), and they said it would ship this week. While I’m excited for that item to get here I feel like my box could have easily been complete without it. So pretty much that item is the cherry on top.

Also cool book plate with a letter from the author on the other side!

I was very fortunate to start out with a box that came with two books! Normally there is only one. The first is Fire and Heist by Sarah Beth Durst. This is the book they are doing the read along with starting today. (Remember to come back next Monday for my thoughts on the box and the read along.) It is also signed by the author which makes it pretty amazing to begin with.

The second books is an advanced reading copy of Storm Crows by Kalyn Josephson. This book won’t come out until July and was printed just for this Fairy Loot box. Don’t worry though, I’ll tell you all about it in two weeks after I’ve read it. It was enclosed in a bag that simply says “Happy Reading.”

While opening my box I let out several squeals of delight and this reading journal was the cause of one of them. It is for the next six months and features monthly layouts, weekly layouts, a place to write out quotes , a place to keep track of books that you’ve read, and finally end of month reviews. I had actually looked at buying a planner like this for 2019 but couldn’t find one I liked. And I am so very glad! I have been using it daily to layout a minimum reading goal, including the chapters for the read along this week.
Unfortunately there is one item in the box that I currently don’t have a use for and that is the pin flag. However, I’ll hold on to it because I’m sure I’ll find a use for it soon enough.

The other large item in the box is this book sleeve from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. If that is not the coolest thing then I don’t know what is. It’s very puffy and will keep my books safe, well except for me. I keep my reading journal along with my current read in it for now.

I think quality is very important to Fairy Loot and it shows with this beautiful glow in the dark dragon necklace. It’s so pretty I can’t wait to wear it but almost hate to take it out of the box.

There were a couple paper items included in the box. The first is a double sided print with Toothless from How to Train your Dragon and the Abraxos. I’m honestly not sure what that’s from. I thought it was Dany from Game of Thrones and Drogon. I also received the first two tarot cards Fairy Loot has sent out.

As you can see there is quite a bit of stuff in this box and it’s not junky cheap stuff. Each item is unique and of good quality. After I received my box I was very happy with my purchase and decided I would definitely buy a box again but didn’t feel the need to purchase a subscription. However, since then my anticipation has grown as I’ve waited for the read along and the photo challenge. So I bought the January box and signed up for a subscription starting in February. That one I’m very excited about because they announced yesterday that it’s Beauty and the Beast themed. It should be good!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it and taking the photos. I look forward to next month and especially the month after that when I get to do this again.

Until then- Happy Reading!
