The Viking & I when we were dating!

Once upon a time, I was 17 and met the love of my life aka the Viking.  At 18 I married him, and 7 1/2″ years later I started to look back at the 1000’s of pictures we’ve taken.  As I did I noticed something, I had no idea why most of the pictures were taken.  Sure they were nice enough pictures, but there had to be a reason behind the pictures, right?  Unless they were for a something special like an event (our wedding) or a trip (we took a trip to the west coast a few years back), I really had no idea for the most part.  The day to day pictures I had taken were a jumble.

One of our engagement pictures!

Enter the blog: I’m determined to turn that around and take a little bit of time to record my life so that in 5, or 10, or even 25 years when I look back at these pictures I can smile and reminisce at the stuff that was going on at this point in time.  For the most part I’m here to have fun but am hoping to improve my writing skills as well.

So why would you read that?  Well, you’re either my aunt (Hi Vera!), or my mom (Hi Mom!) or one of my other friends or family members and are here to support me.  Or you’re nosy, or you think I’m a good writer and enjoy my blunt, awkward, and sarcastic sense of humor.  Either way welcome!

The wedding day!

Still with me?  Good!  So what can you expect right now?  For the month of April, I’ll be participating in Camp National Novel Writing Month (Camp NaNoWriMo), and have decided to write a blog post every day.  To get things started I’ll be doing a 31 Day Lifestyle Blog Challenge with prompts.  Pretty much a lot of stuff about me, getting to know me questions, etc.  Think the first day of school type prompts and you get the idea. I do have a couple of other posts that I’ll be throwing in during that time and these posts will be marked as special ones.  These special posts will be more along the lines of what you can expect from the blog five days a week starting the first week of May.  Now let’s meet the cast that will appear in most of my posts and pictures:

The Viking’s Wife (your’s truly)

I know that’s a super old photo, but I am usually the one behind the camera, or the pictures that are only of me are very, very, very old!  I’m not super into selfies. And of the ones I could find I’m wearing my sunglasses, oops!  But I’m sure that one of my family members will see this and try to rectify that situation, so I’ll update this then! The Viking and our little family live in the Wild West and work in the oil field. I love to read.  I love to write. I love to watch TV and movies.  I love to just spend time with my dogs.  I consider myself to be a passionate person and for most everything I either love it, hate it, or don’t care about it and don’t want to talk about it and waste my time. One of my favorite series is Harry Potter so you will see lots of references to that here for sure. I am a dork and embrace it, sometimes a little too much. I wrote a bunch of responses to getting to know you type prompts as part of a 31 Day Blog Challenge, and you can read them all here!

The Viking

My partner in life. My best friend. My soulmate.  Okay enough gushing.  But seriously he’s a huge part of the name here, and all of the things above are very true.  I look forward to when he’s off work because he is truly the person that I want to spend my time with.  I think it’s pretty wonderful to have found that. He’s an avid hunter, outdoors man, and is such a hard worker both at his job and around the house.  When he’s stuck in the house during the bitter cold winter months he enjoys video gaming, watching TV and movies, and reading books.

Pippy (The original pup & the source of snark)

We adopted Pippy about a month and a half into our relationship when she was a wee pup of 8 or 9 weeks old.  Since then she has grown into a beautiful snarky pup.  I honestly have no idea what she is, so because she came from Montana we call her a special edition Rez puppy.  She seriously has the personality of a cat in a dog’s body.  I’m pretty sure that we live in her house and she views us as slaves or peasants.  She does have a sweet side and at the end of the day she likes nothing better than to curl up on the bed next to me and snuggle in for the night.

Jager (the lap dog who only weighs 105#’s)

After my childhood dog died we decided that we would always have dogs. Pippy had helped me so much in the weeks following that tragedy, and while it was still tough, she made it bearable.  That spring I was finishing up my Associate’s degree and it seemed like as good of time as any to get another dog.  So we went to the shelter to see what they had and that’s when Jeff saw her.  A beautiful year old white lab.  They had a room where you could bring the dog into and play with her and actually get a connection outside of the kennels and when she came in she jumped up on the Viking and that was it.  She had claimed his heart. She also ripped his pants, but oh well. When we brought her home, after about ten minutes and Jager smacking her down once, Pip and her became the best of friends.  While she’ll always be Jeff’s baby, she definitely loves me too, and throughout the years she has times where she definitely is my dog too.  She runs a little bit slower these days, but is still the enthusiastic pup she always was.  And she is always up for a snack and some snuggles.

Blue (the baby)

After we bought our first house together we got our third dog, Blue.  He’s named after the raptor in Jurassic World (one of my favorite movies).  It’s a little on the nose too because he’s a pure breed Blue Tick Coon Hound.  He keeps life interesting that’s for sure and is very clever. If there’s something he wants he’ll find a way to get it.  He can also be very sweet and I love nothing more than during the week when the Viking gets up for work and Blue comes over and noses me to get under the blankets while we snooze for another half hour.  I’m sure there will be a fairly even division between stories about his shenanigans and the sweet things he does.

I’m so glad you’ve found my blog and I hope that you enjoy the stories, the pictures, and the recording of my lifetime of memories.
